OPENING OF ‘SARTHAK - CENTRE FOR SPECIAL CHILDREN’

A special centre for mentally challenged persons afflicted with autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and multiple disabilities is being opened shortly at Old Age Home, Sector 4, Gurgaon. The centre will provide physiotherapy, occupational therapy, special counselling, special education to the persons with such disabilities. The Centre will be providing all these services free of cost.

The services will be made available for all such persons hailing from the whole district of Gurgaon.

It may also be added that the incidence of mental ailments is rising with improvement in maternity and child health services. There are treatments including physical and occupational therapy, medicines, surgeries and provision of orthotic and other aid devices that help maintain the highest possible state of wellness for these persons. The Centre will also try to arrange for such specially designed devices and tools which can assist such persons in their day to day life. There was great need of such a Centre in Gurgaon as such therapies in the outside market are very expensive and the poor parents who have mentally challenged children could not afford such therapies. Such therapies are not only essential for cerebral palsy children but also work as life saving tools for keeping their body parts protected from getting permanently joined and disfigured. Therefore the persons afflicted with cerebral palsy need such therapies on almost daily basis till they attain an age of 18 years.

A few days later, the Centre will also provide free physiotherapy services to the senior citizens as well.

The Centre is being opened by the Spastic Society of Gurgaon. Dr.Ajay Arora and Dr.Ramesh Goyal, both of whom are noted Pediatricians of Gurgaon while speaking on behalf of the Society appealed to the parents of the mentally challenged children for making maximum utilization of the facilities being provided by the Society. Dr.Arora further informed on behalf of the National Trust, as member of LLC Gurgaon that the biometric identity cards for all children who applied under NIRAMAYA scheme will also be delivered from the same venue the moment those are received by the Society from the National Trust.
